This week's word is: VAL

Hello, dragon fans. A special request this week. Many of you ask whether you can buy models of us. You can, of course, from the ‘real’ Mrs Pennykettle, Valerie Chivers. If you go onto the author’s icefire website (address above me on the right, here), you’ll find a link on the home page through to the ‘Pennykettle’ page where you’ll see photos of me, G’reth and Gretel. But that’s not really the message. Val has had to go into hospital for an operation this week. It’s to do with her heart. So we’re are all putting our paws together and sending out our get well hrrrs. We hope that you will, too.

This week, Grabber’s story comes out (in the UK). Lots of people ask the author on his school visits if we, the dragons, are good or bad. Well, that depends how you define ‘good’. We’re not exactly angelic, but our scales are in the right place, if you know what I mean. The author always says that Grabber is a ‘villain’. But he says it with a smile on his face, which should give you the clue that Grabber’s not bad, just…misguided. He gets himself involved in a life of crime when he meets Ron the robber. Here’s Ron, drawn by Adam Stower. Grabber’s story is one of our favourites. We think you’ll like it, too.

Lots of you are asking how Fire World is coming along. Pretty good. The author is very happy with it. Gwendolen has put together a little ‘barometer’ of the word count, which she’ll update periodically. We are currently running at 26,000 words. Also last week, I promised I would give you one small snippet of information about the book. One exclusive New Year teaser that would make you go “Whaaat?”. So here it is: At the beginning of the story, David is twelve years old… Happy reading. Hrrr!
